What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health profession which specialises in managing mechanical disorders of the spine and joints. We utilise many different treatment types dependent on your complaint. We are probably best known for spinal manipulation which is a safe, gentle treatment aimed at improving the way joints in the body move and has been proven to be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of spinal disorders, particularly back pain.
However, we also utilise many other treatment techniques including joint mobilisation and soft tissue techniques such as myofascial dry needling, a form of medical acupuncture, used for soft tissue and other pain syndromes. We know that the proven long term best care for management of back pain conditions includes active care. As such, stretching and rehabilitation programmes as well as advice on activity and lifestyle are often a key part of treatment plans to enhance recovery and prevent reoccurrence of your complaint.
Why do we need it?
Our body is a wonderfully complex organism. The spine is an integral part of this amazing system, housing the nervous system and alongside all our other joints, enables us freedom of movement. Modern day living can place a lot of stress on these complex mechanical structures, resulting in pain and loss of function. Chiropractors are trained to identify the causes of such problems and help to provide solutions.
Who can it help?
Chiropractic can benefit and is suitable for a wide range of people including office workers, manual workers, pensioners, elite athletes, pregnant women and children. Treatment and advice is always tailored to the individual!

I have been to a few different Chiropractors over a period of ten years for neck and back pain and migraines. Ceri is by far the best I have seen and I now wouldn’t want to go to anyone else. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing chiropractic care.
Ceri is an excellent chiropractor, who takes the time to get to the root of any issues. I find regular appointments with her are extremely effective at managing my chronic headaches. I have been treated by several different chiropractors in the past and she is up there with the best!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Many studies have shown chiropractic to be much safer than common alternatives including long term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and painkillers or surgery. Chiropractic is a safe treatment for pregnant women and even those who have had previous back surgery.
In general, no! The treatment approaches will be tailored for you by your chiropractor. They will take into account your level of pain, general health and age. Sometimes spinal manipulation can create a ‘popping’ sound as the joint is stretched, but this is not painful. Sometimes patients will experience an element of post treatment soreness, but advice will be provided to counter this as much as possible.
No, chiropractors are trained to treat mechanical conditions effecting the whole musculoskeletal system and the effect that these have on nerves. These include shoulder pain such as frozen shoulder or impingement syndrome, headaches- including tension headaches and migraines, tennis or golfers elbow, symptoms arising from osteoarthritis of the hip and knee as well as low back pain -acute and chronic.
At your first visit we will discuss in detail your current concern as well as establishing your general health status. If you have had any recent investigations, please bring the results with you when possible, as they are very useful in helping us to make informed decisions about your care. For a detailed physical examination, you will be offered a gown or alternatively please wear loose fitting clothing such as shorts and a t-shirt.
Once your chiropractor has completed the examination, they will sit down with you and explain the probable diagnosis, treatment options, likely outcome and proposed treatment plan. You will always be involved in the decisions regarding treatment and your care plan and are invited to ask questions at any point.
We appreciate that most patients will want to start their treatment straight away. However, if any further investigations are required, such as xray or mri scans, immediate onsite referral can be organised or referral to your GP if necessary. You will also be provided with ‘self help’ advice, which may include stretches or rehabilitation exercises. We encourage a pro active role in your care, the more you help yourself the quicker you will see results!
We aim to get you feeling better and help resolve your complaint as quickly as possible and most patients start to feel better straight away. Obviously, everybody is different and many factors contribute to your recovery time including the severity of your complaint and lifestyle. What we do know is that typically, the quicker you seek treatment for a problem, the quicker it will respond.
